Laura recommends having a 10-15% of the overall budget as a contingency budget. You always need to be prepared for the unknown. She also highly recommends that you get a home inspection prior to the start of any reno project, it will help establish a good understanding of what may need to be upgraded to meet any inspections which may be required during or after the renovation.
