getting the most out of your space

Laura Wuetherick is an Interior Designer who has a passion for creating the space that works best for you, from your family home to also your business space.

Drawing from her over 17 years in the industry, she has given Think Airdrie Networking some amazing recommendations and ideas around home and office décor. Here are a few of her suggestions.

Laura suggests in every space is something black -it grounds the room, something white - a nice clear fresh piece, and something that sparkles. - life should be fun! Having something pretty in your home always brings a smile.

An area rug can be added to a space to help bring softness to a space. Lighting is essential in every space, art work and you accessories can be lost in your space if they are not lit properly.

Purchasing good quality structure pieces is where you will get the best bang for your buck, a great sofa or coffee can make your space. Accessories can be trendy or seasonal and your space will always look great.

Are you wall colours creating the right backdrop for your atmosphere? Laura suggests making sure that the colour you chose works with your existing furniture. Sun and Clouds affect the colour of your walls, colours change through out the day. Understanding the room, will help understand how the colour will change the feel of your space through out the day.

Residential Renovations, communication is key. While making sure that you and your Consultant have communicated well and are on the same plan.  Laura recommends having a 10-15% of the overall budget as a contingency budget. You always need to be prepared for the unknown. She also highly recommends that you get a home inspection prior to the start of any reno project, it will help establish a good understanding of what may need to be upgraded to meet any inspections which may be required during or after the renovation.

Heather Douglas presented on the up coming legalization of Marijuana. While there are still a few items that are still being determined by the Government employers need to make sure they are ready.

What is the impact of impairment in the workforce?
As am employer you need to create and implement a plan. Consider what the hazards would be within your business.
It is the duty of the employer to accommodate workers with medical conditions + disabilities: It is the responsibility of the employee to self disclose any medical conditions and disabilities.

Employers will need to become aware of what impairment looks like.
What are some of the Impairment effects
Dizziness, impaired memory, suspiciousness, impaired motor skilled, dry mouth, worsening of seizures, hypersensitivity, higher or lower blood levels, nausea, fast heartbeat.
The above effects could last in your system for as long as 24 hours.

Heather high recommends that employers work with employees to create a policy around use and establishing a safe work environment. This way everyone involved understands what is expected of everyone.
